February Book Club Discussion: A Christmas at Gingerbread Falls

Thank you to everyone who attended Barron Public Library’s Book Club Discussion! The book featured for the February 2022 Book Club is A Christmas At Gingerbread Falls by Katie Mettner. This Book Club Discussion was particularly special as we were joined by the author, Katie Mettner! Katie talked about her writing process, the inspiration for her characters and writing the first chapter for Barron Public Library’s own writing contest. Participants were delighted to learn about Gingerbread Falls being based on Barron, Wisconsin and that the main character’s origins were inspired by people in the community. There was a conversation about the various tropes and categories in the romance genre and how challenging it can be to get work published. Katie Mettner is an advocate for writing own voices stories. Own Voices is a term referring to books about characters from underrepresented/marginalized groups and is vitally important as it allows readers the opportunity to see themselves in stories. Special thanks to Katie Mettner for attending the Book Club discussion and for writing such a wonderful book!
